Seen that earlier. Still...a performant OPEN platform might do reasonably
well.

yet lag way behind "the state of the art"... The kind backed
by corporations that are able to pay top designers to work on them full
time, etc.
Gamers want FPS, but we are developers and desire something else,
so let's do it.

And I'm hopeful :-) It took 15 years to get Linux
in the best game consoles and 20 for Gabe to use it,
so eventually, in 20 years, game consoles will use OpenShader ?

I don't know about 20 years from now. Honestly I think a well focused
project could achieve more than you think. Not miracles, and not something
a billion dollar corp could do, but something nice.

Forget billion dollar boondoggles.

Go download Rigs Of Rods. Steam has nothing on this. http://www.rigsofrods.com/content/

This is a GPLv3 3-d game with a realistic soft body physics simulation.

Billions of dollars are always at an inherent disadvantage to those of
us posting, because we'll do it regardless of if there's money involved.
